PROJECT ONE
COLOR THEORY
Each rotation has learned color theory differently, but the results are still the same - spectacular examples of how well the sixth graders grasp the concepts of color mixing and the creation of patterns, (the minor "aside" assignment of the greater task). ENJOY!
PROJECT TWO
Perspective
Students had the opportunity to learn about perspective. They were given photographs and had to locate images from magazines to "fit" into the fore, middle and back ground of the original photograph. After which, they wrote a story about their "new" picture. Some of the stories are featured below the slideshow. Enjoy!

Behind the Gate
We got out of Mort’s van and looked around. “This doesn’t look very festive.” Noticed Janet. She was right. Ana, Janet, Nichole, and I had been invited to a party in Chinatown, but it looked more like a haunted graveyard. We were standing in an empty parking lot, separated from the town by a rusty gate. In front of us stood a 6-foot wall entirely covered in graffiti. I stood on my toes and looked over the wall. It might’ve been my imagination, but I swear I saw a man on the roof of a building. Near the gate stood a tall woman with dark skin and thick, black, curly hair. She wore a scarlet dress – probably here for the “party” as well.
“C’mon. Lets ask that lady over there.” I said. Ana ran over to Mort and gave him a hug.
“Bye Morty!” she said to her uncle.
“Bye kids,” he said, starting his rainbow colored van. Mort’s van was a canvas of flowers and rainbows and all things hippie. The van was like, twenty years old, and Mort was too lazy to get it replaced. “See you in an hour. Don’t do anything stupid.” He smiled as he drove off. I don’t know what it was, but something about what he said… and the way he smiled… It felt like he knew something we didn’t.
“Alex! C’mon!” Nichole shouted from next to the fence. I half walked, half jogged over to where she was talking with the lady. “So, we were invited to this party in Chinatown. Do you think you could give us directions?” The red-dress lady nodded, smiling like those women in the shampoo commercials.
“Ah, yes. The party. I was the one who sent out the invitations. Step inside the gate. Brunt Ford will show you were to go.” A bearded man emerged from behind a bare tree. He was wearing baggy clothes and carrying a hammer. Wait... what would he need a hammer for? There was something wrong about this situation - Mort’s words, the lady’s false smile, the guy on the roof... it didn’t make sense. I noticed a man with an umbrella walking along the street, even though it wasn’t raining. Every time he reached a corner, he turned back the way he came. I couldn’t see his face, but I was pretty sure he was watching us. Now, I know I have a wild imagination, but there was something suspicious about this place... whatever it was, I didn’t trust these people.
“Ana.” I pulled on Ana’s arm. “Are you sure we can trust these people?” Ana shrugged.
“I dunno. The lady seems pretty friendly, but I don’t see any party decorations.” She walked up to the red-dress lady, eyes narrowed suspiciously. “If this IS a party, then why is no one here?” she asked. The lady smiled even wider, flashing her perfectly straight white teeth.
“They’re inside of course. Who would want to party in this weather?” She had a point. The trees lost their leaves long ago and the sky was always gray, making this the most depressing autumn ever. “Come on I’ll show you.” She opened the gate, motioning for us to go in. Nichole, Janet, and Ana hesitated, then walked in, but I stayed behind. The man named Brunt Ford shoved me forward, making me stumble.
“Get in.” He said, growling like an animal rather than a man. He was really bad at acting. I picked up an empty beer bottle and hit him hard in the head. He howled in pain, clutching his head with both hand.
“Run!” I yelled back to my friends. The man on the roof was visible now, pointing a riffle at us. The guy on the street dropped his umbrella and ran towards us, and the red-dress lady screamed. Together, we ran out onto the street, to who knows where? We severed into the alley, hoping to lose our pursuers. After a few more turns, we finally lost them. We caught our breath and continued down the alley, trying to find our way home. I had figured out what our kidnappers wanted: Power. Nichole’s mom was a famous fashion designer; Ana’s dad owned 5 of the largest factories in the state; Janet’s dad was owner of a really popular baseball team; and my dad was the owner of a huge software company. With us, they could force our parents to hand over the money. But we won’t let them rise to power. We’re going to stop them.

The Museum of Modern Art with Steve and Bob.
The two men in the foreground are named Steve and Bob. Steve is the one with the water bottle and Bob is the one with the hat. Bob got mad at Steve because Steve set off fireworks on Bobs back. Bob got very bad second degree burns. That is why he is kicking Steve. They had decided to go to the museum. They both had no idea that this would happen. Bob had gotten second-degree burns the weekend before so they had both forgotten about it. While they were seeing the dinosaurs Bob remembered it and kicked Steve. But Steve was too fast and backed away, that’s when this photo was taken. The man in the middle ground sitting next to a pole is named Alberto Einsteen. His job is to create light poles or street lamps. The reason he is sitting is because he got tired at the museum from looking at the exhibits. Alberto didn’t want to sit on the couches because he thought they were stuffed with chicken feathers. {Alberto is a vegetarian; Alberto is also Bob and Steve’s Dad.} He is sitting next to a pole because that’s the only thing he’s comfortable sitting next to. Also because the pole is blocking him from the crucial fight between his two sons. The sculpture in the window is there because the curator of the museum decided to put it there because he thought it would give the museums lounge room a nice touch. The city border of the archway is there to draw people’s eyes away from Bob and Steve. It’s also there because the old archway was crumbling. They painted each and every little detail of each building and person on it. The man standing in the archway is named Jasper. Jasper is a secret CIA spy. He was lurking in the shadows because he was looking for Pedro the evil dog. Pedro was running around the museum with a bomb strapped to his chest. Jasper had suspected the evil dog was somewhere hidden in the dinosaur bones. After five hours of carefully looking he found Pedro ion the ribcage of the dinosaur, fast asleep. Jasper had to act fast because the bomb had thirty seconds on it until it exploded. Jasper climbed the dinosaur, grabbed Pedro, and stepped on the bomb! Defusing it and saving the day! [If you want to know what happened to Steve and Bob, they continued fighting until they got home when it turned into a food fight and mashed potatoes got thrown everywhere. Alberto finally came home and yelled at them to stop or they would be grounded.]

Umbrellas 30 And Over
It was Mr. Washing’s 30th birthday. After getting ready, eating breakfast, and putting on a light coat, Mr. Washing decided to spend his birthday downtown. He glanced outside, and seeing two girls, students at the town’s high school, walking around with no coats, Mr. Washing stepped outside. Suddenly Mr. Washing felt water dripping onto his head and shoulders. He looked up, but saw no rain. Confused, Mr. Washing jogged back inside his house and grabbed a black umbrella from his back door, just in case. Again, Mr. Washing walked outside. Just as he opened his umbrella, he heard the splat splat splat of rain against the concrete. Mr. Washing bent down, looking at the dry sidewalk. Feeling dizzy, he leaned against a silver car, what is going on? Heather, sitting in her new car’s driver’s seat, felt the slight bump of Mr. Washing leaning against her car. Heather looked outside, but seeing no one against her car, relaxed and started gathering her things to drop off at her mother’s house. Grace and Mia, two juniors in high school, walked home from yoga, laughing and talking about the great weather. Mia, holding her red yoga mat, let her dog walk ahead, while she laughed along with her best friend. A bird perched on a railing, taking in the scene on the street.
Four Years Later
Heather’s 30th birthday… She smiled as she walked outside, the sun beating down on the grass and sidewalks. Heather’s cousin, Kathy, walked next to her on the gray concrete. “I can’t wait ‘till I turn 30! Only one more year…” Kathy said, imagining the day when she would be as old as her older cousin. Heather smiled again, when something wet plopped on her nose. In a split second, water started pouring down, soaking Heather’s shorts and shirt. She looked at Kathy, but Kathy was dry and walking like the rain hadn’t just started to fall from the sky. “Kathy? Should we go inside? I have to grab a umbrella, and change into dry clothes,” Heather said, looking at her cousin. Kathy stopped walking, confused. “Umbrella? Dry clothes? Heather, are you okay?” Kathy said, worried. Heather looked away. Did this have something to do with turning 30?

The Boy with the Magical Bread
The boy and his giraffe have come from India all the way to Chicago. They didn’t just walk there. They got there by something magical. The boy, his bread, can teleport, and anything that touches it. However, the boy is being chased. If the bread gets put into the wrong hands, it could destroy the world. The boy did not mean to teleport to Chicago, and he definitely did not mean to be surrounded by people, him being stuck in the middle of the street. That boy’s name is Juan. He is a young fragile boy with a quick mind. The bread was given to him as a toddler. It has been passed down for generations in his family tree. He was given the honor to be the holder and the protector of the bread, and the world. He is not planning on disappointing his ancestors. He has a pet giraffe who knows kung-fu, his name is Gingo. He met Juan one day, and wanted to join him on his adventures ever since, knowing that it may cost his life. The people who are hunting Juan and his bread are secret assassins.
The young Asian boy, his name is Bob. He came from Alaska, and has ultimate sushi eating skills. He is a master hunter and is amazing at blending in with his surroundings.
The two men who are blending in with the civilians in the back, they are twins. The first one’s name is Jon, and the one is Joey. They both came from a mysterious planet call ChikenAnus. They have x-ray vision, and can telepathically talk to each other. They spotted Juan and are making their move.
The final man, he is the leader. He is a dramatic man with super strength. He is always making plans to capture Juan, and now that he finally has him surrounded, he laughs as he circles him. His name is Ricardo. He came from Afghanistan and has spent his whole life trying to hunt down Juan.
He walks around Juan, telling him how foolish was to teleport to this location. As Ricardo and his men take a step forward towards Juan, Juan says “HAHAHAHAHA you are the foolish one” and teleports away, just as a car speeds through the intersection and slams into Ricardo, Jon, Joey, and Bob, ending their days of hunting Juan. Juan gasps and clutches his knees while overlooking the city on a building, as he chuckles to himself, knowing that from now on he can live a fun and peaceful life. “Gingo,” he says, “we now live in paradise”. Gingo gave an oink in reply. “Life is good”.

Super Pug
The city of Milestone was right beneath a volcano. The city was bright but dimmer than usual because the volcano was threatening to erupt, luckily there was someone there to stop it. His name was Super Pug. He arrived in a blue Ford that dropped him off across from the adidas store. Super Pug jumped out to meet his friend Goosey. But as Goosey saw him he began running and ran into a pedestrian and hit his head as he fell. “Uh Oh.” Thought Super pug something is terribly wrong. He looked up and saw a huge light in the sky, it was the moon but it had come terribly close to Earth as if in expectation of something huge about to happen. The giant billboards began showing the news cast, the mayor was announcing, “Everyone the Earth is going to crumble an we are at the center of destruction.” Instantly people began to panic because of the news. Super Pug flew up to the billboards and changed them to picture of ice skating, ships, and basketball. The people began to mellow and began going back into the mall and shopping. Super Pug flew back down to goosey. They were located in downtown across from the adidas store, Zing , Milestones grill and spring sushi and shoppers drug market. The mountain was shining in the distance where miners found iron and gold. Near the mountain on the west side Two people ,Bobby and Billy were in a crane loaded with 4 tons of gold and Iron when they hit West Milestones electric and wifi building immediately every light on the west side went out. Billy and Bobby couldn’t see anything so their crane began hitting buildings and knocking them over. They reached for their parachutes and went flying out of the crane they were headed toward the East side of Milestone. They began hitting signs and billboards and knocking them over. They then saw a pug on the ground. “We don’t know what to do the volcano will explode.” They said. “Never fear.” Said the pug and he flew into the sky. “The crazy dog club must be on a field trip.” Said Billy and Bobby and they both ran into a very strange goose “I’ve had enough cranes for the day.” Said Billy “Yeah I guess we hit the wall with them.” Bobby said as he hit a wall.

Dog Parade
On a hot summer day in the middle of manimal town, on a street, a parade at just started to end. There were many dogs at the parade because that day was annual dog day! Dogs and their owners came to the parade, there were cakes and treats for dogs. There was a beauty contest, a dog food-eating contest, and a dog race. There was food and games for the owners too. There was a man named Joe, lost his dog named Sizzle, Joe left Sizzle tied to a tree to get some food for both of them. When Joe came back, Sizzle was gone, leash and all! Joe tried to call Sizzle, held out Sizzles favorite treat, and Sizzles favorite toy. A group of friends came to the parade with their dogs and chatted, ate food, played with their dog(s), and played arcade games. Sizzle slowly came up behind Joe when he was sitting after trying to look for him, Joe was thinking of all the memories of him and Sizzle, Joe was happy when he found Sizzle. The parade had a 21-gun salute to celebrate dogs. One of the dogs, Brownie, was very interested in one of the soldiers named Jack. Brownie wandered toward Jack, the owner of Brownie, sally said “Sorry, he’s very friendly” Jack said kindly “oh, it’s okay, I love dogs! I’m thinking of getting one myself!” At the fair next to the parade, there were orphaned dogs that needed adoption. By the end, every orphaned dog had been adopted. At each booth at the fair, everything got sold every one had a good time and everyone went home with a dog whether they’ve had the dog for a long time or they just adopted one that day, even the people in the parade. Jack the soldier got a puppy just like brownie and just as friendly. Joe was very happy he found Sizzle or….. Sizzle found him. The group had a very fun time, one of the group members, John didn’t have a dog and he decided to get one. All of a sudden, cats flooded into the street!

Bee Season
One day Clark thought it was a nice day to go for a stroll with his dog, he brought a book just in case. During his stroll he came across a giant bee, so he stopped where he was and pretended to read. This bee was no ordinary bee, but a mutated bee, this bee was meant to get gargantuan. This bee broke out during the experiment by a mad scientist, the bee was meant to sting the president and potentially kill him, because of the poison mutated in him, but was supposed to put the president in a coma for nearly 15 years. The scientist’s name was Bill, he sat down near Clark, he was holding his stuff because he was fired for trying to rule the world. The Lady walking behind Clark was actually a spy trying to steal this bee, her name was Rose. She was very close to succeeding her plan to eliminate everybody, all she needed was this bee’s mutated poison. But while she was walking towards the bee she noticed that it seemed to be attached to the person walking in front of her. Rose couldn’t possibly tear away the bee from that man. But it was a part of her job so she slowly crept up behind the bee and was about to grab it but a kid saw and stopped Rose “What are you doing?!” Said Tommy, the child. “Nothing! I was just going to… pet this bee!” Exclaimed Rose unconvincingly. “Sure…” said Tommy, he had just possibly saved the world as he knows it. Back to Clark, he stopped reading his book and witnessed what had just happened, he sent his dog to scare away Rose, but since she was trained to fear nothing she pushed the dog, not caring whether it got hurt or not. While all this was happening, Bill noticed the bee and went to grab it, but the walking man took notice and called the police about what was happening. This is what he saw, a man grabbing for something near him, a woman and a dog fighting, a man pulling away the woman, threatening to hit her with a book if she didn’t stop attacking his dog, and last he noticed a giant bee following him. The man screamed, Though the bee didn’t attack him, in fact it seemed to like him. So he took him home with him, Rose dove for the bee, but a police man grabbed her and arrested her, apparently she was also a criminal, they also arrested Bill, for nearly attacking the president. So after that things were peaceful.

PEACE AVENUE
It was a nice day in Peace Avenue. There was sun, and the sky was all blue. The leaves of the trees were green. Suddenly, the sky turned purple. All the drivers in Peace Ave. came out of their cars. They all looked surprised. Mrs. Flower was also surprised. She tried to open the door of the car, but she couldn’t. She was locked in the car. Mrs. Flower tried to open the windows, but they were locked, too. Then, she remembered that there was an emergency exit in the back window of the car. She came out of the back window, but her legs were too long, so she couldn’t move. Then she saw the purple sky, and she forget about her long legs and jammed door. Mrs. Flower was a science teacher, and she just didn’t understand why the sky was purple. It was impossible! Meanwhile, Mr. Brown came out of his car, and he looked at the sky, too. He always believed in magic, so that situation wasn’t strange to him at all. Instead, he just watched other drivers. All of a sudden, he saw a cat climbing to a tree. The cat’s name was Bunny, and he was trying to see the sky closer. Bunny climbed to the top of a sign near a tree. He scared when he saw the sky. He stand on the sign, and didn’t move. There was a cute, baby doll picture on the sign where Bunny was standing. The doll was smiling like it was alive, and it took all the driver’s attention for a moment. Something was definitely strange in Peace Avenue that morning. The doll pointed to the writing on the sign which reads “ Get The Doll: $30” Meanwhile, a short woman named Mrs. Mice walked toward the purple sky, and stayed without saying anything. Other drivers looked at her, and they thought she was dead. Then, they heard a dog barking. When they looked where was the barking coming from, they saw huge dog. The dog was looking like a wolf with sharp teeth and long legs. He turned his back to sky. There, Mr. Brown saw the dog. He knew that if he could stay still, the dog wouldn’t notice him. Mrs. Flower couldn’t move, because her car’s door and window was jammed. Mr. Brown couldn’t move, because he was scared of the dog. Bunny, the dog and Mrs. Mice couldn’t move, because they were scared of the purple sky. But the doll on the sign was trying to show something. The drivers and animals looked at the doll. They saw that the doll was pointing to sky. Suddenly, they saw a writing on the sky. It said PEACE. All the drivers understand that they weren’t being nice people recently. They were always angry, and not peaceful. That was a warning to them. After they understand, the sky turned blue again. The dog disappeared, and bunny went to his home. Mrs. Flower somehow opened the door of the car. Mr. Brown calmed down when the dog went. Mrs. Mice stopped looking at the sky, and she went to her car. The doll, well the doll was still smiling…
